Yes, it is, as there's far more herbivors and omnivores in the fish world, and even the carnivors get their veggies by eating the herbivors and omnivores. Providing green algae for Otocinclus and their close kin is the key to keeping them alive long term.
The loaches will eat the algae to a point, but they are actually after the copepods that are feeding on the algae themselves.
Irregardless, cultering green algae on river cobbles is one of the keys to my success in fishkeeping.
