if they are true breeding pairs and want to breed they should be by themselves.

oh yeah forgot about that well the only one tank i think would be close to being big enough for them is the 52 gal with my community tank

what are your pair of oscars in?

right now they are in a 20 gal, one is roughly 7 inches if that and the other is about 10 inches but u see the largest has only one eye and when i had him in a larger tank he couldnt get the food before i sunk to the bottom i had him like that for a week before i couldnt handle him being starved so now hes in the 20 gal with the tiger oscar and i havent had any problems

a 7" and a 10" is horrible in a 20 gallon. if you saw that in a pet store would you still shop there? if the one needs to be in a smaller tank that is one thing but neither should really be in there, let alone 2. what filtration? what water change schedule?

i have a very large air stone the produces much air and a filther that also airates the water the tank get about a 60% water change once a week, also if u read in one of my other posts im buying a new tank for the oscars anyway thats why i want to know about a differernt species

that still doesnt undue the damage they have already gone through that they shouldnt have. what size tank are you getting for them? the biggest an oscar should be in a 20 gallon is about 3". why not hold off on more fish until you are absolutely sure that all your current ones have enough space for when they are full grown, rather than tryign to squeeze even more in where you can now. the 2 oscars should be in a 75. a pair of jacks would need a 55. the convicts need at least a 20 if not a 30. the severum, blue acaras, and black ghost knives will fill that 52 when full grown. by silver sharks do you mean tricolor/bala sharks? if so they can hit a foot each and tnak size depends on how many you have. im assuming you werent asking about putting the jacks in the 52 with the others still in there.

Doesn't the large oscar take food once it has sunken to the bottom of the tank?

it does sometimes but it has trouble seeing it coz it can only see its right side and usually the tiger oscar gets the food, the large oscar is now getting better and speedier thats why ive decided to make this change and put them into a larger tank

Ok.
I'll suggest that you refrain from getting any new fish before you have that tank up and running and than see if you could get anthing new.

and try to get the oscars into something larger as soon as possible.

what kind of setup is that? Sounds like you should be able to find a considerable cheaper second hand setup. (but I don't know the aussie market.)

William

ok. I stll think it might be a good idea to check classifieds etc for a second hand tank if you want to save money. is that $US or AUS by the way.

Aussie dollars, i do plan to look around first of course but that was the first one ive seen that can suit the requirements

I think that can be a good idea. I paid 200 - 500$us for my 125 gallons tanks with stand and lighting. But that was second hand.

You can also se if there are any aquarium sociatey that are about to sell out some used equipment in your area. I made some really good deal at such sells. I have for example bought one 60 gallon with stand/ligting for 10 dollar, a 125 gallon with stand, no lighting for 10$ and a 125 stand no ligtinb for 50$. (all figures US) These were extreme bargains but they show that there are bargains to be had if you read classifieds etc.
