I currently have an unplanted 10 gallon betta tank that I would like to put some plants in. maybe 4 or 5 plants.
I have an economy hood on it,

with 2, 10 or 15 watt Incandescent light bulbs. I cant remember.

I’m doing my home work and I have some questions.
I’m reading that Incandescent light bulbs just transfer energy into heat, and not growing power.
Am I correct so far?
So can I use these mini compact fluorescent bulbs in my cheap hood?

If I use 2 of them, at 10 watts a piece, I will have 2 watts per gallon in my 10 gallon tank.
Will that be too bright for King Leonidas (my betta)? I have small size black gravel in the tank. If it is too bright, would 4 or 5 plants be enough cover / shade for him? Should I use one mini fluorescent, and one incandescent bulb?
Is that good enough for healthy, low to medium light plants?
Will I have to mess around with co2 for 4 or 5 plants in a 10 gallon tank?
Or will regular plant food be ok?
Thanks in advance for any info,
James
