i think this is the best forum for these guys since they are a bottom dweller and are predatory. i have had this pair for almost a year. they are now about 6-7" each. i may try to breed them. they are in a 55 with a rainbow shark, HUGE bleeding heart tetra, and a bristlenose pleco. there is just a fluval 304 on there right now.

Nice Bichirs. Got any other predators swimming in any of your tanks.

Hope you don't mind that I moved this to the Other predatory fish forum.

i think it fits better in predatory catfish, after all the bichirs are a carnivorous bottom feeder. i have a 8-9" sun cat in the 150, along with a bumblebee cat, black ghost kinfe (not really a bottom feeder), 2 Synodontis eupterus in the 150, and one Synodontis sp. in an open-topped planted 40 breeder with convict cichlids. i have had others including tiger shovelnose and south american redtail cats (neither of which got even close to full grown) and a couple of my favorites, an albino asian redtail cat and a Chaca chaca.

Nice collection.
Hmmm might need a a new forum for predatory bottom feeders that aren't catfish.

Nice collection.
Asian red tails are true monsters.

How big is your chaca?

the only stuff i still have are the sun cat, bumblebee cat, black ghost, Synodontis, and bichirs. the frogmouthed cats (Chaca chaca) are great. they stay small (under about 8") and are really only appropriate for a species and actually a specimen only tank. the asian redtail is the only other fish i havent been able to keep anything with besides the jag due to their aggression level. if i could find another albino asian redtail i would love to try it with the jag after a growout period.

Hope you find one. Especially since there are people working to have them banned. No reason to ban them in north virginia byt you never know.

there are many fish that need to be banned before asian redtails. people need some common sense before they should be allowed to limit others' freedoms.

Tell me about it. If people used their common sense there would be no "need" to limit others freedom. Than you would be allowed to keep snakeheads and bring water with you when you fly.

there will never be enough common sense for everyone, but the problem is the lack of it in people with the power to limit others' freedoms (politicians). there are a lot of fish species that very few people are actually capable of dealing with. some aquarists just like the species and dont care so they get it anyways. im not saying i have never been guilty of this (notice i no longer have all those huge catfish species and they never got full size).

I think everybody is guilty of that at one time or another but the most important part is that you are willing to take the consequences of the lack of judgement one might show at one time or another by finding a new home for the fish, getting a larger tank to house it in or in worst case scenario being able to take the responsibility and kill it rather than releasing it in water were it don’t belong.

Personally i feel that it doesnt matter to swap speices between countries WITHIN THE AQUARIUM illegally introducing them is totally wrong and if everyone already knew that i would have much happier aquariums william knows what i mean

Also how big is your black ghost any pics?
