in a 10gal tank,

1)
2-3 guppies
2-3 platies
a school of tetras neon or a few rummy-nose.

2)
a pair(1 male + 1 female) of dwarf Blue rams.
5-6 neon tetras or 2-3 guppies

3)
one male or a male+female pair of dwarf Gourami or honey Gourami if i can find them.
2-3 guppies

thanks and if you have ANY other idea that would work post them.

plans 1 and 2 sound overstock and if u get rams ask the seller where they came from. If they were either bought from a private breeder or imported from germany than they'll be ok but if not then they will most likely be hormone injected and not live long, as in like a month or 2

I don't like cichlids in anything smaller than a 20g so 2 is out in my opinion. I like 3 and 1 is a tad overstocked but fine.

I agree with Kuli. I dont like cichlids in any thing less than 20gs

I think you should go with 3 and add a few small cories with it

I vote for a 4th option of a school of neon tetras with a dwarf gourami and maybe some cories. If you don't like that option, then I vote for #3.

Ok,sorry for all the questions but i am new to fish keeping.

so #3 is sounding like a good choice, would a male and female pair of dwarf Gourami or honey Gourami be ok or just one of them in this tank? Would the guppies be ok in the tank with the Gourami or would the gups get fin nipped?

also can some one show me some pic. of cories? I have not clue what they look like.

thank u all for the Wonderful advice. It's been very helpful to me. :thumb:

Your gourami should be fine with the guppies. I can't comment on how many. I've only had success with 1 male dwarf gourami in a tank, but I've never been able to find a female. Multiple males has caused me trouble.

There are a bunch of different kinds of cories with varying patterns and sizes. Here's a page that shows two of the types that I have:

Female dwarf gouramies are hard to come buy as most lfs don't get them due to the lack of color. As I understand it, they're just kinda brown and dull. I'd go with just one male as well.
I also agree on not putting rams in a 10 gal. 20 is much better. Also, they do best with 1 male with a harem of 2-3 females. In addition to that, they like soft somewhat acidic water (though can be acclimated to slightly higher ph), they prefer quite warm temps, I keep mine at 80. They aren't tremendously hearty unless you get them from a reputable succesful breeder and apparently....Germany. (I'm not sure about getting them from Germany...never looked into that....note to self....better quality Rams in Germany???)
I've had great luck with mine so far.....but I've been keeping them for a number of years and don't recommend them to a beginner. (the let down factor)
Your Plan #3 sounds good and I also liked Spudbuds plan #4. :ezpi_wink1:

I go with guppies for the top, neons for middle and a few corys for the bottom.

Keep in mind, once decorated, a 10 gallon doesn't have much room and it needs to be cycled first.
