My little male is growing so darned fast. The females stay at the top in hiding from him altho they have plenty of caves to hide in. He keeps finding them and rooting them out.

Last one is my adult male that sits in that cave of his all day long.

He's growing and coloring up nicely, Hobbsy. When he matures he'll have more romantic interests in those females. He's being a testy teen now.

Very nice shots, Lady! You know, there is some kind of competition on some aquarium forum (the best one around, I hear) into which you might consider entering those. Best be careful though, I hear some freaky Moderator runs the competitions! :ezpi_wink1: :41:

I had to take 20 pictures to get those 4. LOL The 3 small ones are out and about all day that the big one likes to stick to his cave until the lights are out. He's coming out more and more, tho.......until he sees me and takes off.

I will catch him yet and get his picture.

The large one is a very nice fish. He took very well to the new ones that come after him. I like him a lot.

This cave lurker of you, Hobbs would be an interesting object for a psychological study on more intelligent fish, as Cichlids are.

This animal behaves completely different from how it should. Man that would be something to research.

When I enter my living room, and my fish see me, they almost jump into my hands begging for food, and sometimes my Cichlids and I play the game "Who looks away first", guess who always wins:hmm3grin2orange:

He is like none I've ever seen. I sit in front of the tank hoping to see him better, he comes out and sees me and is gone for another hour.

Remember me telling you about the blood parrots being mean to him? Well, I was doing a good tank cleaning on the parrots tank Sunday and put them in his tank for a minute. Holy cow. He come tearing out of that cave then and lit right into the parrots. He must remember back to how mean they once treated him.

There is more in a fish`s head as we give them credit for, I guess.

Lots of people tell you that fish dont remember anything. Nonsense, utter nonsense.

Just look how your animals react when they see you with a net in your hands in front of a tank.

Then fish beg for food. If they wouldnt have the possibility to learn and remember, would they react??

And whats about territorial fish?? Do they forget where their territorial borders are? Or do they forget how their mate looks or maybe smells?? Nope

Ergo: of course your Meeki remembers the Parrotsthumbs2: Pain is something one (animal or human) remebers bloody long.

Hmmm maybe your little Meeki can learn that you arnt dangerous, just sit in front of your tank for some time, maybe meditate in front of it. Or combine the sight of you with some favourite food. Kind of positive feedback/experience. When this works with dogs, why not with intelligent fish?

Holla Hobbs

I just had some words with my big dominant Meeki Lady, from woman to woman so to say:hmm3grin2orange:

And the Lady agreed.

Thats the way a female FM can look

She is so pretty. I was basing the coloration to help tell me which is male and female. Obviously, I was wrong here as you posted me and told me my large one is in fact a female. No wonder she is rather mild.

She comes out of her cave and goes into all the other caves just to look for that firemouth. She doesn't like him one bit and is the only fish she bothers. According to all I've read, they are supposed to be compatible but not so in this case. She is fine with the clown loaches, tho.

I have to ask what you feed yours? The Sajiic in the POTM is just beautiful as are your firemouths.
