How long does it take to cycle a 20 gallon tank using fishless cycling using ammonia.

And if the tank has plants in it, will that be a problem when puttin ammonia.

My 20 gallon took about 7 weeks fishless cycle.
Just keep measuring your ammonia, nitrate and nitrite until the readings come out as the tank being cycled.
I cycled my 10 gallon with fish, it only took about 5 1/2 weeks and if you do it right the fish won't get hurt.
I think it is better to do fishless cycle though because it is so much nicer to the fish. Just incase they do get hurt.

WOW that is a long time for a fishless cycle. Seeding the tank even lightly should give you a 2-3 week result max. Heavily seeding the tank will result in a stable cycle in a week or less.

It depends on how much ammonia you add and the plants you have. I wanted to be completely sure it was cycled before adding fish so i waited 2 weeks after i thought it was cycled. I don't really know why mine took that long....

im not patient enough to do a fishless cycle... too boring to look at an empty tank for so long. I put about 5 platys in my 20g about 20 hrs after being filled 100% with the tap ...it's been almost 2 months, no casualties and 15+ 1-month old fry
