anyone have experience with them? i read they need at least a 30g so im thinking about one for my 55g.

All of my fish in the 55g are large, so im not worried about them being eaten, but are dwarf lionfish reef safe?

In a sense they are reef safe, CP, but they'll eat ornamental shrimp and fish they can fit in, and with their big mouths, they can take surprisingly large prey.
I've kept lionfish before, and found them hardy and tough. I fed mine frozen silversides, krill and frozen foods for carnivors. Adults should be fed just a couple times a week; overfeeding, especially on fish, can cause kidney problems with lionfish. Young ones can be fed once or twice a day. You should skewer the food and wiggle it under his nose until he equates you with the food bringer. You should never feed it live fish, as it's not only very, very bad for the lionfish, it will cause him to take nothing but live fish from then on, to the point of starvation.

You can get a volitan, you have enough room for one unless you dont want one. But if you do want a dwarf I would suggest a pterois antennata They do well in 35 gallon or more aquariums so youll have plenty of room heres a pic [Only Registered Users Can See Links.]

I was doing research on getting a Dwarf Lion myself. They are grumpy fish, and will eat crustations and anything they can get into their mouth.

Other than that, as long as the other fish are too big to eat and too fast, it shouldn't bug them. A single lion likes a good 10 gallons to himself, so give him a lot of room and privacy. Lots of hiding places are preferred, and they are a predatory fish and create a bit more waste, so make sure you are timely with water changes, though as far as the tank itself, I hear besides water quality, they like the tank a bit on the dirty side lol. But that's what I heard.
