Congrats to your son on his new fish...what size tank is he in?

for now he is in a 1 gallon housed alone but he will be moved soon. I have been working with my son on doing a 25% water change every other day plus i have been monitoring him on the feeding as he tends to feed too much. he gets fed 2X daily, once on flake and then with blood worms or mysis shrimp with an occasional live fruit fly. he will be moving into either a 5 or a 10 gallon.

him getting this fish has sparked my interest in this species. I was never a huge Betta fan but I can see this changing.

Beautiful crowntail your son has.
They are very personable fish and he would love a 10 gallon if you have the space. I has one in a 5.5 and when I upgraded to a 10 he made sure to use every inch of his new home. They like to hide and rest on big leaved plants.

I am currently working on a 10 but I have a 5 that is not in use, so it may go either way. right now the space is tight
