Nice vids and info! I enjoyed watching your SW fish, so pretty! Cool idea with the tinted acclimation boxes or if you need to watch a fish fur whatever reason. I like that you can monitor poops and it separates the fish from other fish potentially bothering it :)

Unfortunately I ended up having to trap and remove my Yellow Tang. It decided it didn't like my Coral Beauty and took a chunk out of it's lower fin tip and has backed up to it and given it a few tail whack's with the scalpel on it's fin. Nothing too serious but it did cause some surface damage to the coral beauty. The coral beauty has been such a great fish, eats algae, leaves corals and other fish alone (after the first couple of days) and it is the one fish that the whole family agreed that we wanted. So out the Tang went. I am going to try a Pyramid Butterflyfish or maybe another smaller Yellow Tang. We shall see.
Jesterrace
07-04-2018, 05:41 AM
Although the coral beauty definitely doesn't like other coral beauties. Put a mirror up earlier to try and curb some of the intimidation/aggression behavior from the Tang and this is what the Coral Beauty did:

Great journal! I'm happy to see another salty. I missed it up until now as the mod moved it to the freshwater journal section instead of the saltwater. Lookin' good!
Question regarding your skimmer. In that second vid you posted that described your setup, you had a lot of water in your skimmer collection cup. Are you purposefully running a super wet skim for some reason, or were you still just trying to get it dialed in at that point? I don't dry skim, but my skimmate isn't nearly as watery as what was shown in your vid. I was just wondering if there was any benefit to having it that wet.

I have since adjusted it. It just took me a while to get it dialed in. There is no real benefit to having it wet (just means replacing more water). Anyways I do have a Pyramid Butterflyfish in QT and will post a vid of it when done. I did add a backing to the aquarium.

I don't have any SW tanks either or know much about them, but have to comment, your tank is amazing! I loved to learn about your fish, the vids were very informative :bravo:
I also like the full spectrum diodes. I find plants use red and blue mostly, but I was curious if they still need other spectrum to do well. I wonder how straight full spectrum would do. Is it just red and blue? That's where the spikes are.
Here is a spectrum chart for the FS
56797
Edit: Actually, there is a bit of yellow and green thumbs2:
I'm considering modifying my FW fixture to include full spectrum or adding RBG strips. I would mix FS with 10000k white if I modify it because I don't want a pink tank lol. Works for your sump, i'm curious hollow you like it.

Just about anything will grow Chaeto (let's face it algae isn't too picky), personally I love the look and as it's just my sump, which is covered most of the time, it isn't a big deal. I agree that if it were the display tank I might not care for the light, but I like the look for the sump. Thanks for your comments.

Another growth update for the Melanurus Wrasse as it continues it's transition from Juvie to Adult. Among the most noticeable upgrades are the coloration on it's tail and fins and more visible body stripes. I have an older video from last year with another tank and it looks tiny and drab by comparison. The best part? The transition is still underway and isn't done yet:

If I could do it over again, I would've gone 75 or 120. I hate the height of the 90 gallon tanks. I know I would deal with the same height with the 120, but at least I would get the wider tank for more scaping options and more room for the fish.
