I changed both my substrates out a month ago in my 30 gallon and my 60 gallon and added plants. Now I am dealing with diatoms.
I was doing two 50% water changes weekly on both of these tanks, but, after suggestions that this is too much for a planted tank, have been doing one 75% change weekly on both. Right before the water change weekly, it looks like my nitrates run around 10-15ppm.
I dose 1 x weekly the recommended dose of Flourish, Nitrogen, Phosphorous, Potassium, Iron. I also have root tabs in substrate around heavy root feeding plants : Swords and Valisneria.
On the 30 gallon I have 1 24 inch Planted +SE and on the sixty I have 2 24 inch Planted Plus SE. I leave the lighting on the 24 hour cycle.

My question is: What should I be doing to control diatoms?

let it ride through on its own, especially since it hasnt occurred until you changed out your substrate. Diatoms are way easier to deal with than spot algae, BBA or hair algae.
