William

I got a request for user tagging to invite users to a discussion to give their opinion on something. Similar to tagging in facebook.
This tagging function have now been added.

Simply type @UserName (http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/aquariumforum/member.php?u=59273) ex @William (http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/aquariumforum/member.php?u=1) to mention someone in a post.
Use the tag box above any thread to tag people.
Users can see there tags and mentionings.

Expect some childhood diseases as we first start using this feature. it is a function designed and released for free so i do not know how well it works.

So the tag box above the thread invites them to the thread itself whereas if we use AmazonJoe in a post it will direct their attention to that specific post?

AmazonJoe

Yes BluewaterBoof

Yes. And people also get notified if you quote them.

I also received an email with Joe's mention with a link to the discussion, as well. Another nice feature.

This might make things a bit muddy. We're all kind of quote-happy hahaha

Indeed, only time will tell.

Thank you for all the investment into the forum
William it is appreciated!

I was thinking the same. But I can disable to quote notifications and keep the rest if you turn out to be too quote happy.

Thank ya, sir!

I think it may take a little bit to get used to, but this should turn out to be quite a useful feature of the site.

Rocksor

William is it working?

Slaphppy7
07-26-2017, 01:27 PM
is it working?

I wouldn't know if it was or wasn't, we're supposed to get emails?

Rocksor
07-26-2017, 01:51 PM
Slaphppy7 I think it will be in the notifications, similar to when you get a thumbs up

Did you get the quotes notification now?

Slaphppy7
07-26-2017, 01:53 PM
I just had some sort of notification at the bottom right corner of the screen, Rocksor

But it disappeared when I switched pages

Slaphppy7
07-26-2017, 01:56 PM
Did you get the quotes notification now?

Yes, it showed up in "Notifications", too...and there were some there from yesterday

William

Ok so I found an issue, maybe. I wanted to refer slap to a post, but simply putting Slaphppy7 was not enough characters ... Just thinking it might be easier than writing a PM asking someone to look at a post...

BluewaterBoof
07-26-2017, 04:06 PM
Why not just add a word like "hey Slaphppy7"? That should satisfy the 10-character requirement.

William
07-26-2017, 05:43 PM
Rocksor Yes it works. But i have been sleeping so didn't see your mentionings until now.
About the caracter limit. I think it is best to keep it to avoid a lot of yes, no etc posts. adding a few words afterwards solve it easily such as boof suggested above.

Agreed, although there are "work-arounds" for that...but I'll never tell, lol

Rocksor
07-26-2017, 07:18 PM
Slaphppy7 why not?

Slaphppy7
07-26-2017, 07:22 PM
To avoid the "yes", "no", "ha!" etc posts William is referring to.

It's not a big secret, a handful of members here already know how to do it...right Nat?

BluewaterBoof
07-26-2017, 07:26 PM
yes.........

BluewaterBoof

I actually know the trick from a car forum that I frequent :)

yes[.COLOR="#FFFFFF"].........[/COLOR.]

BluewaterBoof
07-26-2017, 07:28 PM
But the trick still requires the same amount of "effort" as actually typing a more meaningful response. I like to use it when posting a photo without thinking up a caption.

William
07-26-2017, 07:42 PM
That is not really a trick. It is just a more cumbersome way to fulfill the requirement ;-)

Slaphppy7
07-26-2017, 07:44 PM
Back to this "tagging" stuff...I really don't see the point, for me anyway, because I (usually) read most or all new posts in the first place.

William

Hopefully Matt knows me well enough by now to know that I would never do it for real.
I don't want to give him a stroke, just a small shock. LOL

AmazonJoe

And wiping off any stray water marks on the glass :14:

Slaphppy7
07-27-2017, 01:03 AM
My tanks never have stray water marks on the glass.

There's this neat invention called "rags", I always have one over my shoulder during any tank activity, especially during WC's.

No excuse not to.

BluewaterBoof
07-27-2017, 01:15 AM
I'm constantly reaching in and adjusting equipment or trimming/plucking plants as I walk by my tanks. I do my best, but stray droplets are inevitable for me. Only during large overhauls will I have towels and whatnot laying around.

I'll have to figure out the new notification system tomorrow. It sounds quite useful -- thanks William!
