I was waiting until after I returned from a long-scheduled 2-week vac to get a few new fish for my aquarium, not thinking it might be snowing. :( It's 35F/1.6C out. I'm in the city so they'll have to be outside at some point for 5-10 mins till I get home or to the subway.
Any tips for getting them home? Less water? Under my coat? Triple baggies? Scarf around the bag? Or is this just a bad idea?
Take a small cooler (or other similar insulated container) with you and put the bag in there.

Backpack with a small blanket in it to wrap around the bag while in the store, they will be fine.

When I have bought fish in the winter I always make sure the car is good and toasty and always keep the bag in my coat. My ride is under 10 minutes.
When I travel to distant stores I bring a cooler.
You can also bring some newspaper along with you to get it.....have them double bag it then wrap newspaper around it and put that in another bag. One of those soft coolers as already said will help as well. Newspaper is an excellent insulator....ask any homeless person.

Cooler works as stated by gm. When I got my new firemouths this week, I didn't have my cooler with me and it was 12 degrees. I put the plastic bag of fish into a store paper bag for better insulation and run like heck to the car I have kept warm because my dog is in there. LOL
I think madly mentioned the subway though, not a car. I would be sure to bring a cooler at least in your case. I've lived in NY in the winter riding the subway. LOL

We're telling OUR experiences on buying fish in the winter but newspaper is a great insulator.
Ok....I get that. Mad had asked for suggestions in her situation....was just trying to be helpful. :c5:

I missed the subway line. Your right. Get a cheap cooler, but a biohazard sticker on it and enjoy the ride.:stongue:
ROFLMAO Oh yeah.....that's a wonderful idea on a NY subway. LOL
