View Full Version : Is my shrimp pregnant?

Hellow, everyone! So I have a tank with one snail, a sky blue velvet shrimp, an orange sakura shrimp, and a blue diamond/sapphire shrimp. I was gone for two weeks and when I came back, I noticed that my sapphire shrimp has a rounded belly/abdomen and has these clearish-legs flipping out from time to time underneath it. However, because it's so dark, I can't see if there are eggs. I'm attaching a picture to see if maybe someone can figure it out. Thanks!51919

I can't tell from this pic.

That's a female shrimp, and you are seeing her swimmerets

Unless a female becomes "saddled" then "berried", she won't produce young

I apologize. I read your post wrong and I was looking at the orange Sakura shrimp. Now that I look at the sapphire one it does indeed look plump as if filled with eggs. Try to watch her and see if you get a look at her underside. As big as she appears to be you should be able to see some white eggs underneath, especially when she flutters her swimmerets.

IMO, the best website for learning about shrimp, lots of good info here:

Thank you both! And I did see these round grey things when I was watching her but I wasn't sure if I was seeing things or not.
