it varies, but its usually 12"-14"

They would compete with Bass in the Florida everglades, would catch them all the time down there. Biggest I've seen in the wild was 6-10 inches. I'd suppose in a tank they wouldn't grow as big due to them being conatined in something smaller than 1000 acres lol

Usually 12". Sometimes you can get a monster at 15".

12" is about average, but I know some have hit 18". I have seen them wild in the everglades at 12", and even larger in tanks.

i guess i never hooked into that trophy in the everglades. What I remember most about them is they were everywhere and extremely aggressive. Like sunnys/panfish in ponds in numbers but one heck of a fight. I suppose alligators take their toll on the larger ones in the wild.

Id make sure to accomodate(sp) for atleast 15"
you never know you might get a monster of a fish providing you keep him/her happy and healthy
