About 4 days ago i bought Charleston Chew from a local fish store and noticed some of his finnage doesn't look right
, some of the fins on his head and under his body look a little tattered
, also yesterday i cleaned out chewys tank and noticed a substantial amount of grime layered on everything is that normal for only 3 days in ??..
Charleston Chew lives in a 20 gallon tank that sits at about 78-80 he is my first Betta and im not sure what to look for in a fish for health issues ..
any help is appreciated

Is his tank cycled/are you cycling? Does he eat all his food or does it sink to the bottom when you feed him?
Is there anything sharp in his tank that could rip his fins?

My betta has a bad case of finrot and someone on here recommended I pick up Paraguard - which seems to be working; if you're worried you could try that. It doesn't affect the ph or anything in the water, but if your filter has a carbon media you need to take it out because it affects the way the medicine works

But I'm new to betta keeping too - so I can't really help to tell you if that's normal or not [emoji17]

How long has the tank been running? Did you cycle it?

From what I can see from the image the fish fins look very fine to me.

that doesn't look like fin rot.

I agree, no fin rot I can see, just long rays with shorter webbing.

I agree nothing looks wrong. Keep monitoring your water parameters just in case something pops up. Very pretty fish.
