bulb trouble

i think what I have is a red lotus(cant show you a pic as it has no leaves) but my pleco broke the plant off of the bulb and new leaves have not grown and its been several weeks. I really dont want to lose this plant its one of the few that has done well without any special care. Does anyone know why its not growing back?..has it finally died? Ive had it for about 3yrs.

Its just never done this before when the plant was damaged...it always came back good as new when this happened.

as long as the bulb is firm it should come back. May be in a dormant rest period

As Algenco has stated...

just test to see if the bulb is soft. Soft is bad... if it is firm, pull it and leave the bulb in a cool DRY place for a couple of months, then reintroduce it and see how it goes
