I am only posting this here because the "new topic" button in the dieseases forum wont work
1 of my female swordtails has pop-eye. She has been lethargic for the past few days. I cant move her to the hospital because last night, the main tank was at 71, so I turned it up, but now its at 82! Its too hot! So i turned the heater down, but what do I do with the swordtail?

Pop eye is a symptom, what other symptoms is your fish exhibiting? How does he eat, how is the coloration, does his abdomen appear to be swollen? You need to get him into a hospital tank now as it may be due to a viral infection that may affect your other tank unless quarentined.

if its in one eye, it might be a fight wound, 2 eyes means poor water quality. keep the water clean, and add aquarium salt to keep the liquid pressure fluid buildup in the eye down

should I put salt in both tanks? Or just the hospital? I told my mom that my fish is sick, and it has pop-eye. She got meds even though I didn't ask her to get them. Should I put them in? oh, and I got the fish in the tank.

sHe ate yesterday, when she was a little lethargic (hiding, swimming slowly), but today she is only on the bottom, not swimming or eating. No problem in the abdomen.

I cured a molly of ours once that had popeye using salt baths, what we done was put 1 tbsp of aquarium salt in a bucket with 10 litres of water, then added the molly for a 15 min swim, after 3 consecutive days of doing this, the popeye was gone.
As mentioned, there usually is an unerlying problem though, bad water conditions or an injury are just 2.

I can't really do a salt bath now, because the hospital already has salt in it. This is what I might do:
Salt AND meds in hospital
Only meds in main tank.
Put carbon on both tanks for a week when the popeye is gone on the swordtail.
Is that good?

Be carefull using meds in the tank with the cories in it, be sure to read ALL directions very carefully, with catfish it is normally recomended to halve the does.

There are no cories in it right now. I wont get them for 2 weeks.
I put the meds in the hospital, AND the main tank because my male started looking lethargic. It says use it for 5 days, so I will do that in the hopsital, but how long should I do it in the main tank?
