View Full Version : A lighting question

Hi all.

I'm going to upgrade my lighting to LED lights. I have chosen the Finnex Planted + 24/7 fixture. I really like the 24/7 feature. I have a 50 gallon long that has a center support for the two really awful, cheap fluorescent hoods I currently have. My question is if I buy one Finnex to go along the entire tank, will the center support affect the lighting? I plan to get (or make) two glass or screen panels so that the tank is not completely open at the top.

Thanks for your opinions.

Nope, I have the 24/7 on my 75 which has a center support and it doesn't affect the lighting at all. What can affect it is the dark hinge that many glass lids have. I don't know why you make clear glass, and clear plastic back trim and then make an opaque brown hinge :scratchheadblue: seems to defeat the purpose. But I have my light just behind the hinge and the tank is very well lit.

Thanks a lot :19: That really helps. I didn't think about the hinge. I agree. Doesn't seem like a good design.

I remove the black hinge off of my glass tops. The glass panels just sit on each side of the center support bracket. On my 90g, I do notice shadowing at the very top of the tank from the center brace. But it might depend on the angle of the LED diode beam and intensity. I don't notice much shadowing on my 120g with a 120° beam LED.

Thanks. Good idea on the hinge. Nice setup thumbs2:

Hi again. I am torn between the Finnex 24/7 and the Current USA Satellite Plus Pro. The Current is more expensive but it's water resistant and has more ways to control the lighting affects. If you have one of these lights, would you share your experience with me.

Thank You.

If I had the need (and could afford it) I'd get the Current Pro.

I have 3 of them, the Current LED fixtures (no "Pro's", though), and love them.

I have the Finnex 24/7 on my 40B, and like it much less than the standard Currents I have...it's not NEAR the level of user-friendless and vast options for lighting the Currents are.

Get the Current Pro, you won't regret it.

I do not have the Current Pro but I do have 3 Current + and love them. Very user friendly. If you feel the need for a 24/7 option ( I do not) I would suggest the Current.

Thanks Slaphppy7 and Silbar. I am leaning toward the Current.

Thanks. I will. Maybe I'll do a review after I've used it a bit.

I am interested in all your thoughts about it, as well. Right from the get-go, (ease of set-up out of the box, programming thoughts, etc.) in addition to later on assessments, pretty please.

The 24/7 setting is something I've been very interested in for quite some time now.
