i put up a ad for anyone selling coral frags, and some guy replied saying he has GBTA for $15.

a) i cant remember what GBTA stands for, its a anemone right?

b) are they hard to care for?

my retard moment is over, i remember its a green bubble tip anemone. are they hard to care for?

EDIT- and i will try my hardest to care for it, but if it were to happen to die it wont expel a poison that kills EVERYTHING in the reef like a condy, right?

Yes...it's a green bubble-tipped anemone...that's what I have...love mine...so cute! Fun to feed too! Eats like a piggy.

They need a mature tank...should be 6 m old...and very stable water parametres...

...and yes, should they die...remove ASAP...

But they're a wonderful critter...and VERY long-lived...they deserve a good home...and $15 is very cheap...I paid $30 for mine, and that was a bargain...

i read that at least a 4mo tank is recommended, so im good.

i did ALOT of reading, and think im good for one.

have you experienced any aggressiveness? i read that they get crabby if they bump into other corals

...nope...mine's been a perfect lady! She's located herself in a little niche in the rock closer to the back of the tank...

...but there are no neighbours close enough for her to touch...so it's all good!thumbs2:

thanks! one more quick question

my old skimmer was a hunka junk, and it quit on me. my new one comes friday and im due for a water change on the reef tomorrow.

if i were to pick up the anemone monday, would he be fine for 4 days without a skimmer?

EDIT- squirt, theyre recommended for at least 29g tanks

IMO...i think that he would be...cause doesn't the skimmer just remove stuff from the top of the tank???? or am i wrong??? seeing as i am new at this i think that i am wrong. lol.

it skims it, but makes a huge difference in water quality.

im thinking if i do a water change tomorrow and manually skim the tank he will be fine.

EDIT- im a idiot, i forgot aquagiant has skimmers for $80 on sale so i can pick one up monday before i get the anemone

one more question.

i just asked a few nitpick questions about GBTA on allexperts, and the guy said that the anemone would be the healthiest if i got a clownfish to host.

sadly my tank raised clown died after the move to the 55g for some reason, but my skunk clown is doing great. will the skunk host in the anemone?

its possible that the skunk clown will host in the anemone. however, clowns are not necessary for a healthly anemone
