Welcome to the AC, Rose!

For the best responses, it is optimal to set questions further down in the Forum, under specific categories. If you wish to scroll down a little, you will find a section called "Other Fish" and there is a category within that section titled "Livebearers". If you were to start a thread there, you might find more responses to your question.

That said, your swords are likely to have more than this current batch. Providing a hiding place (such as the log you'd mentioned, you could also add plants -- live or plastic -- or other things as well, like an Indian Almond leaf) would help the fry survive. However, you are going to have to make a plan for what you will do with these fish as they grow. (and if you really do want them)

I'm looking forward to seeing you about the forum.
