the reef store got a over shipment of premium fiji (better than regular), so its only $6/lbs until Nov.30! i bought 15lbs today, and i can get 25lbs when i get paid on the 30th
Very cool, but my question is, what makes it "Premium?" Just curious, not doubting.

the guy added some special stuff to make the LR extra "juicy", better than standard.

Im guessing he added "purple up". It makes your coraline more vibrant.

not purple up, it was something else, cant remember what.
the purple thrives in low light, so in the start i only ran 110w on my 55g and got some nice purpling, then i ran a full 600w and ive got enough nice purpling.
i forgot someone is giving me some money on friday so im going to pick up some more LR then instead of the 30th, since i figure by the 30th most of it will be sold, and on the 30th get some corals.
The store also got some nanocubes in, the 8g model looks cool.

lol, that would be a big shipment.
they werent kidding when they said they got overshipped. they restocked the 300g LR tank AGAIN to the rim with LR, they must have some in the back. I got some really cool pieces today.

just a random question, but even with my tank only being a few months old can i get away with a toadstool coral?

no problem. just medium-high light and medium flow

here we go.
the 3rd pic is one where the YT snuck in (loves getting photos taken of him)
the first and second are of LR,
the 4th is of some excellent purpling (i purposely run 55w on the tank to get purpling before, since it thrives in low light. i DO NOT use "purple-up" products
the 5th one is of one of my tons of zooa patches, this one is the brown ones (you can see a brain coral too)
and the 6th one is of the entire tank, with 55lbs LR. it really looks taller in person, but you know the saying "the camera puts 10lbs on"? with reefs, the camera takes off 10lbs, LR that is. next friday im getting 25lbs so i will be at about 80lbs. im getting corals too, and my goal is a total of 100 corals

one more of the whole tank. the 25lbs next friday will have 15lbs of it to the left, since its bare, and 10 stacked in the middle so i can place high light corals on it

no problem. just medium-high light and medium flow
Thanks! i have the perfect place for him
EDIT- i just did some reading, and it said to keep them away from macro algae, zooanthids, and metal halides, so i will be placing him mid-tank level closer to the HO and T-5's, away from the MH

Man that is still expensive, it is 5$ a pound here and if you get over 20 lb it is 4$ a pound.

i know, aquagiant has base LR for $3/lb and good fiji for $7/lb, but the small reef store i go too has better quality.
here in edmonton, there are easily over 50 fish stores. The one i go to is the only one i get most of my fish and inverts and corals, but i sometimes go to aquagiant.
All of their corals are sold from a 300g long with MH, and they have over 150 types of corals for sale. Their LR is sold from a 300g L-shaped tank with MH.
Before any fish can come out for sale, they go through quarantine in the back. they get proper tanks, and they even let customers go through the quarantine room with their permission to see it, the fish need to go through 2 weeks in the back.
most fish prices are jacked up around $10, and corals are about $20 more, but you cant beat the quality of their livestock and LR.
For some reason their freshwater fish are cheap though, $4 for a baby severum, and $20 for a monster fullgrown one. BP's are $8 each, and clown plecos are $5
they also are ridiculously nice there.

WOW.....your tank is really nice....i can't wait to see the finished product!! :thumb:
there is no stores around me that sell coral or liverock. There are stores that sell SW fish and inverts but thats all. And it is petcetera. lol.

the petcetera here sells LR, and saltwater fish. saltwater fish is one thing they shouldnt sell.
the fishes tanks are connected 10g, with one FW rock in the middle. their yellow tangs are always in poor shape because yellow tangs need LR to pick at for algae, and petcetera at least needs to feed the YT dried seaweed and give them a 33g tank

at your petcetera do they have the LR in like the back room or something???? cause they never have any showing off at mine.
and i know they are all connected with a little hole for the fish to swim through. I agree 100% that the tangs need more room. They have all of the tangs in tanks like that and it is not good at all.

thats what i hate about petcetera, feeder fish and LR is in the back, and once i got a glimpse of the feeder goldfish tank and the water was black.

yep, that was some nasty water!
Fiji LR goes for about $10/lb here, Brazil is about $12/lb, Jakarta/Indonisien about $9/lb and Tonga Branch is also about $10/lb.
Here's a silly question, but is LR, say Fiji LR actually taken from Fiji and shipped here?
cocoa_pleco
11-23-2007, 07:22 AM
yep, its 100% taken from Fiji.
that would suck paying $10/lb.
That's what I thought, just wasn't 100% on it.
Someone should start a poll (if there hasn't been one yet) on which LR is, in their opinion, the best. Would be good to get some feedback on that. I've heard the Fiji, Marshall and Jakarta have the most life on them.

personally fiji is first to me, then jakarta
