I'm fairly new to understanding fish behavior. What does it mean when fish likes to stay extremely close to the glass(kind like their looking at them selfs) and to the surface of the water. Just curious.

Have these fish been in the tank for long?

Each different species of fish has it's own behaviour so it would help to know which fish...

Tetra's like to school up and down at the front of the tank by the glass if they are in larger numbers - I reckon they see the reflection and think there are even more of them :hmm3grin2orange: This is especially true with rummynoses - some other tetra's prefer to hide out in the plants and investigate everything...

Guppies like to swim at the top of the surface as most of their food is found there in the wild...

So let us know what fishies you have...

Mostly I think they see themselves in the reflection...usually territorial males will get the most excited about it...but I've noticed other examples as well...

Never thought of the schooling angle of the reflection...but that makes sense!:22:

They really like to hang around the heater. I assume the warm water attracts them.

No, no, no, what is the temp of the tank. 5 degree range is too great. So again please, what is the temp of the tank? We want to help and need accurate measures to do so. :help:
