I'm sure this has been asked before and also I'm sure there are many opinions but I want to ask anyway.......I currently have a AquaClear 70 with 4 bags of bio max but I was reading up on Seachem Matrix. The info on the matrix intrigues me as far as how porous it is and surface area and the fact that you don't need to change it like bio media, that from what I understand, it degrades over time. So what do you guys use? What have you found to have best results? Thanks in advance : )

interesting video - did some research for ya and found - people seem to be of the opinion that this is actually just well marketed pumice stone.
the MSDS says its 100% natural stone - it looks like and floats like pumice. Although I first thought It was maybe just large chunks of Zeolite, I know believe its pumice. I also hear you may be able to get pumice from your local nursery - so worth checking that out, otherwise your paying ~$30 for packaging and the assurance that your pumice is clean.

You don't have to change your biomedia out, unless it starts to fall apart

I have been using the same bio-max for about 5 years now and I can't see me replacing it any time soon. You just have to keep it frre from crud and it should last a very very long time.

I don't have any first hand experiance with matrix so I can offer much help there

I use matrix and it doesn't float. I have been using it since I got my Rena Filstar almost 15 years ago, and it is currently in my one Eheim 2217, the other Eheim 2217 has the Eheim BB media.

I have not had any problems with it and it is a great product.

I have been considering replacing my matrix and Eheim BB media with this, I saw it at the Aquatic expo in St Charles, IL last year and was impressed with its surface area.
