Pictus catfish

well my LFS has some pictus catfish and they also look cool and well i was wondering how big they get...have done some research but every site tells me something different....and what minimum size tank they need..???

also i have heard that they will eat fish when they get bigger???? true??

From my experience with them Id say 50gal would be minimum.They are a very active cat and are constantly prowling around.Yes they are predatory when they get bigger.I would say anything bigger then an inch would be safe.Mine was 5" when I gave him up.I do believe that they get 6" at the upper end.If you have the room for them I recomend them ,they are really a striking fish.

really...a 50g???? wow...my folks would never let me have that big of a tank....how long does it take them to grow up to full size????

How big are the ones you are looking at?Mine was 5" in 6 months,he was 2-3" when i got him.

um.....just little....around.....hmmmm....1 - 2 inches.

if they are small like that you might have 6 months to a year before they get squirlly.

um...i don't know....it just said 'pictus catfish'...maybe it was a spotted one.

yeah i just googled 'spotted pictus catfish' and it looks exactly to what i was looking at....so you were right....do they still grow at the same rate???

ok i made a mistake...the pictus at my LFS are going for $9.99 and well thats not the fish that i was interested in....i will make another thread on the fish that i really really like.

i thought there was a few different types of those fish. i know the ones i was going to originally get were called the 4-line pictus cat which dont get much bigger than 5-7".
