I have read about them (at least what I could find). But I couldn't find out if they should be kept in groups. I do have brown algae I would like them to eat. But don't want to have too many fish in my tank. And I don't want the Oto to be lonely either. Thanks for the help.thumbs2:

Are they for the tank in your signature area?

should be kept in groups, 3 minimum, 1 per 10 gal

I had 2 in my 5 gallon, they were both fine until the one died a few months later. So I put the last one in my 20 gallon recently and added a few friends. I have a total of 5 in my 20 gallon.

Algenco....I think you could put more than 1 per 10 gallons...they only get 2" tops and don't create much waste.

Markbob, yes they are for the tank in my sig.

I'd go 4 or 5 and suplement their diet with alge wafers.

yeah you could go from 4-6 in a 30g hex. That would be very nice.....but don't forget that they eat the algae really fast.

You can. I have 3 in one of my planted 10 gallon tanks along with miscellaneous other fish. Very happy and very active. Zero problems.

...and it's amazing how much the first one has perked up!

He was hiding, not eating much, very skittish.
Now with a buddy around, he's acting normal. The change is amazing!

I welcomed 4 Oto's to my hex. Man, those suckers can hide! At first they went right to the glass. But later they were on the rocks, and the plant leaves (very hard to see). My tank is so active. I love it. :)
