I'm buying a new canister filter tomorrow and wondering which to go with the Rena xp2 or the fluval 305...both are pretty close to the same price, just wanted some opinions, never bought a canister before...ty.

ive found the best canisters to be fluvals, i have all models of the 05 fluval canisters (105,205,305,405) and NONE have ever let me down

Have you considered Eheim ? I mean the Classic serie. At first, I was looking for a Fluval 305 too but I noticed that the Eheim Classic 2215 would do the job better and also, Eheim is said to be THE reference in canister... also, on my side, the Eheim Classic ended up being more powerful than the Fluval and cost me less (because the 2215 came with the media and the connect valve (which worth 50$)). The only problem (GM72 will probably want to reply this) is that there's no filter media holder. This can be a problem when it come to cleaning.

I'm a big fan of Fluvals, but from what I've heard those Renas are excellent too, so I'd say go with which ever one you like best, i don't think you can go wrong with either thumbs2:

Fluvals, I have 11 or so running around here, they are good. Unless you can afford a good Eheim.

I agree with everyone here about Fluvals, however, I have a Rena xP2 on my 29 gallon tank and I love it. It does a great job and I think it's easier to do maintenance on vs. the fluvals.

looks like both filters are equally good. i think the best idea would be to go with whichever one suits you best

I'm going to go witht the Rena. Eheim would be good also but not a single store in town here carries them or the media. so picking up the rena today...:)
