I need some help with water discoloration. Two weeks ago my water was nice and clear and I put in some live rocks in my 55 gallon saltwater tank after curing them for 3 weeks in a separate tank. I assumed they were cured when the ammonia and nitrite levels went back down to zero. Shortly after I put in some fish and now have two clownfish, one 2" tang and one 2" trigger. Since all these events the water has gotten a yellow/greenish tint to it. The ammonia and nitrites are still zero and nitrates and phosphorus levels are low. I keep changing the media in the cannister filter but it can't keep up. I also have a protein skimmer which I think is working ok but its not picking up much junk (surprisingly since the water is discolored).

Can anyone give some advice on what I should do? I never had experience with live rock - is this the source of my problems? Will water changes eventually cure the problem? Is there something else I should test for? Also I was thinking about buying a clarifier like Kent Pro Clear - would this help clear things up?

Thanks for any help!

Are you running any carbon? Carbon can pull tint out of the water.

possibly an algae bloom. i would add a second canister filter. you need more current in a saltwater tank anyway

I wouldn't keep changing the media in your tank especially if the tank is new.

i wouldn't of added so many fish in so quickly. Also, that trigger may become problematic in the future
