Yes, the females have much less color.
Let me introduce you a female dwarf gourami.
I would to have at least one for my dwarf gourami too. But they don't have them at my LFS. Indeed, I think they never will.....

Same here, lasm. My LFS always has the male dwarf gouramis in stock. Ever since I got a male about 2 months ago I've been looking for a female. Haven't even seen one yet.

The most important lesson that I have learn while keeping gouramis is that if you put two or more males at the same time in the aquarium there will be no fights. Because no one feels the king of the tank.
But if already have one and you introduce another. Be sure the one that was there before will fight to death the new guy.
Congrats that you have females in your area. I have 3 lfs and none of them has females. I'm so jealous of you.

that is not always true, i've gotten 3 gouramis at the same time before and had fights and had to seperate them. The problem was that 1 was bigger then the other 2 and he assumed dominance and picked fights. So try and get them the same size too.

sorry to jump on this thread. I have a question about the color of the gourami. I have a female that has some color but nothing like that one from the picture. Will she increase in color over time as long as i have health conditions for her?

As she matures her color will become better but females never have good color.

The best time when you will see her colors at the maximum expression is during spawing.

I have 2 Male and 1 Female Gold Gouramis.
The 2 Males Gouramis fight occasionally when they bump into one another.
They have been with me for about a week.
