Indian Fern Propagation:

A few months back I managed to get hold of an Indian Fern from my local pet store, I wanted to plant it in a small space that I have in the middle of my tank but it was far to feeble to do so. Until now it has been floating in my tank and has managed some healthy growth.

I took a cutting from the far end where the roots were longest and pushed it into the recently fertilised substrate.

What do you think, is this the correct way to propagate the Fern and was the cutting of a good enough size?

As long as it had roots I'd say it should do ok. It will of course depend on how it transitions from floating to being in the substrate.

The roots were a bit longer than those shown in the first photo. I was as patient as I could be with it. If all goes well I will be more pleases that the plant was so much trouble because I will have two of them or more if I choose to do the same again in the future.

if it is a ceratopteris fern, those typically do well floating, so you might want to try leaving some
plantlets at the surface to see how they do.
