I don't know if any of you remember my post but for the last 3 weeks about none of my zoos were opening and they started to get really unhealthy looking and I thought a few of them were about to die they were so skinny. I have been doing weekly water changes and as far as water parameters are everything is perfect.
I came back to my dorm last night to see that everything is opened up and looking healthier than ever. Some of my polyps are like opened straight up like they want more light but I have 130 watts over the 10 gallon tank that they are in. At first when I got them they were nice and wide open too so it wasn't like they wanted more light.
If anyone has any ideas on what they need now or how to keep my tank going in the right direction please let me know. I am just happy they are getting healthy again or appear to be healthy.
I don't know whether mine need it or not...but they get fed a mix of Cyclopeeze and Coral Frenzy 2-3 times a week...and I target feed so I know they get it if they need it...
...seeing how often the polpys 'grab' food and stuff themselves, I figure it's a good thing to do! :hmm3grin2orange:

That's awesome cocoa. I thought for a while it might have been zooa pox cuz we are in the season.
I also had a lot of nasty red algae that was covering them and that is gone so I am sure that helped. I got some nassarrius snails but I don't think they worked that quicly on the algae.

this is really freaky, i had red algae on my one large patch too.
it was like a wave. it was a 1 inch wide band of red algae that literally moved in a straight line across my zoa patch on a 3lb piece of LR. it would move about 1mm/hour. i was lucky that my 55g had very little red algae in the new stage, so this was a shock. i figured my zoas were toast, yet my other 2 zoa patches were red algae-less yet not opening. the wave made it to the other side of the LR then disappeared

I think I remember seeing that there are some diseases that effect (or is it affect?) zoas. I had one batch that just withered away in my tank, when all of my other corals (including some other zoas) were doing fine.
I think it is kind of strange that they are commonly known as being "easy" corals, when I think they are kind of touchy.

thats what im starting to think.
but for some reason when i had the 20g high set up as a reef with 54w light the zooas NEVER closed, but in the 55g they did for a bit.

If it looks like your zoas are stretching up towards the light it might mean that you need to move them up higher in the rockwork. If they are already up high then they might be looking for a little more flow....
But, having said that, I wouldn't worry too much as once these corals adapt to your tank they're pretty flexible with their needs and will spread on their own to areas higher in the tank or towards areas with flow they prefer, etc.
Got any pics?:c3:

Well they were real healthy for a month and then they started going downhill. This is the first time they have been out in at least 3 weeks.
