So the new 20 gal has a haze to it and theres little sand particles floating all through the tank........I dunno whats wrong with it. Its not like a milky cloud, its just got a slight haze to it. Water parameters are fine. Any suggestions?

Have you added anything to the tank lately or done a water change?

I did a water change after the cycle completed (6 days ago), before I added the fish, but everything should've been settled by now.
And I haven't added anything extra to the tank....except some more fish yesterday, but the haze was an issue the other day, before the new fish.

Only suggestion I had was that it was because of a temperature change in your water change if you had just done one. One often gets a slight haze and floaties which usually clears up in a couple of hours.

Sorry, but I haven't been online for the last couple of days so I may have missed a previous thread on this. But how long have you had this haze and when did you first notice it?

I'll be watching this thread with interest because my tank has developed a haze in the last week or two that I can't get rid of either. At first I thought it was pollution from overfeeding my fry, but I changed out a bunch of water and quit tossing in fry food, and it hasn't changed.

Sorry, no answers, but maybe just some sympathy for you...

Your tank is cycled and you have added your new fish - once you add fish for the first time in a cycled tank biologically the tank needs to adjust to the new waste etc. Until the tank is completely settled and used to the new fishies there will be a slight haze - as soon as enough bacteria has built up again to deal with them the tank will be clear... it is not that you will get nitrite but the whole balance has to settle again. Every tank is different in some this won't happen and in others it will... just give it some time thumbs2: thumbs2:

The floating particles can be from fish being added and things being disturbed in the tank that weren't before so they are now floating lose... will also settle in a few days and be filtered out

The particles were floating before I added the fish. I believe its sand but with the haze and the particles its just driving me up a wall. I was wondering if maybe putting an extra filter cartridge in would help it. Its got slots for 2 of them, but I only have one. Might be good anyway though, that way when I change my filter media (no time soon) I won't have to worry about the cycle getting set back I guess...

i would add a fine foam sponge.

another thing you can try is a particle water clearer. it clumps small particles in aquarium water together so that its easy for the filter to catch them. wal-mart and other pet stores sell the products

The haze sounds like a bacterial bloom to me, it sohuld go away in a few days, were the floating things always there or just recently? it might just be some sand particle. Also with the sand make sure you run your hand through it every couple weeks to get rid od bacteria pockets and bubbles.

Would adding Ramshorns snails to it prevent her from having to mess it up with her fingers? They dig and airate like worms right? They also breed out of control but might be worth it.

I got some "Clear Tank" at walmart earlier (the same people who make quick cure, ick treatment).....I dropped some in there...it says add more if the water is not clearer in 24 hours. So how long should I expect, before I see a difference? As of right now I still have the same amount of tiny particles floating around....don't see any "clumping" together.
