Hi. I am pretty new here. I have had a 10 gal set up with my Beta in it for 3 months. Two months ago I added two female guppies. One died within a week from a case of ick we had. My Beta and the other guppy were fine after heat and salt cured the ick. So for two months just the one guppy and Beta have been together peacefully. I wanted a couple more guppies so she wouldn't be alone. Yesterday I added two more female guppies. My question is my original guppy (Startile) seems to chase the other two (Red and Dot) and I don't know if she is excited they are there or bullying them? I do see her put her mouth on them at times, but there doesn't seem to be any actual nipping. Or maybe she is nipping and I just don't see the damage yet? She doesn't seem to chase one more than the other, it is both of them. It is not constant either, last night the three of them "slept" together in a little group, and they do swim around together and hover in the same area. Sometimes it almost seems as if she is "herding" them to go where she wants.

By the way, my Beta (named Beta :P) doesn't care about any of them. I only saw him flare at the first guppy once when she came to close to his little corner while he was eating. He chases them sometimes, but no real aggression is shown. He flares more at his reflection on the back of the tank, lol.

Seems like she's just trying to display her dominance to let the other 2 know who's boss. Once this is established, there should be minimal nipping.

the females can get a bit agressive
what can help is to put a male in there with them
