I've always had fluorescent lighting for my aquariums, but recently a friend gave me their hood that has a screw in fixture. I heard that incandescent bulbs are not too great for fish tanks though, but can you get bulbs other than incandescent that are screw in? If not, are there incandescents that are better than others, and what should I use if hoping to grow plants with it (if even possible)?

Fluorescent lighting is okey for fish besides the problem that they can explode if water get splashed on them. Fluorescent lighting is however not as suitable for plants.

Could you find halogen lights that would fit in the sockets?

I might have found some screw in halogens online, but Im wondering, dont halogens tend to emit a lot of heat?

Yes. It can be a problem if they are to close to the water.
