Starting new aquarium

We have an 84 gallon aquarium that we will be starting up next week. Is it okay to add the water to the aquarium, THEN add the conditioner? It just seems like it would be to much trouble to fill a trash can full of water, add conditioner then pump it into the aquarium.

I think it would be just fine to add the conditioner once its filled. It will get mixed in by the filter and it will be a while before you have fish in there anyway.

yeah it would be fine but once you get fish i would treat the water first before putting it into the tank...just so you don't shock them or anything.

Oh yes! For the first time, or as long as there are no fish in the tank...add the water directly! And enjoy the process! It's the only time it's that easy to do! :hmm3grin2orange:

I've always added the conditioner after filling the tank and have never had problems. What i do is when im halfway filled i add half the dose of conditioner and then add the other half when the tank is completely filled again.

the reason i do this is because our water smells like a pool.....thats how much chlorine is in our water...thats why i put the conditioner into the water before adding it to the tank.

Sorry, I may have missed something here. Nobody's mentioned a Python yet. Anyway, with an 84g tank, you may want to consider purchasing a Python, which is basically a hose that hooks straight up to your faucett and runs to your tank. Great and easy way to fill up your tank, drain your tank and do water changes. Just let the water run in and add the conditioner to the tank.
