Yes, but it will probably hide all the time. Kribs are social and dither fish would keep him/her out. You could put a pair together with no other fish in a 20g.

What kind of 20 gallon? Regular, high, or long? I guess my question is why you would want to keep a single specimen krib?

well i want a cichlid that is peacful (community) not to big eg oscar and not to small eg dwarf gourami but i want to get a cichlid that will be quite colourful and can be housed in a 20gallon tank with some small schooling fish like tetras

AND I DONT WANT IT GETTING PECKISH AND NIBBLING ON MY SMALLER FISH

You could do that with a Krib, I would get a female, much more colorful. You could also get a Bolivian Ram, even more peaceful and just as easy to keep.

Female Kribensis are colorless when allone. They get their colors only when they spawn.

Has the fish to be very colorful, or is it possible its a bit timid looking, but having an interesting behaviour?

If yes, there are nice little Cichlids, very peaceful. They come from east Africa and those fish live in snailshells.

Perfect for a 20 gal. tank.
