Well, a couple of days ago, my klein's butterfly appeared to have a few whitespots on his fins. I thought nothing of it because from my experience, whitespot (Cryptocaryon irratans) will come and go and is usually harmless. However, the next day i found him dead. He was covered in whitepsot. probably about 1000 times the amount he had the day before.
Now today, my damsel has got it - badly as well. What i find strange is that damsels are never usually susecptible to ich. My theory is, is that there was soooooo much whitespot in the tank, the ich larvae could not find a stressed out or weak host. Instead, they attack on mass the poor damsel.
I am currently preparing a QT tank and will be treating him with hyposalinity and CUPRAMINE copper. Now lets see what happens

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Good luck with the treatment.
Not good news at all. Sudden outbreaks/deaths are never easy. Hope all ends well for you and your fish!

I lost 24 neons this week due to ick and probably 5 gold tetra's. The majority of the neons died yesterday after putting Jungle Labs Ick pellets in the tank. Normally it's pretty good stuff but too strong for the neons. They were covered with it, as your fish are, and it come on overnight as well.
I've been treating for 5 days now and still see 3 of my remaining 5 with it still. I will dip those out and destroy them.
I never had ick so hard to destroy!! My temps are at 86 and I'm also using salt so this has gotten quite disheartening.

that works too, i tried it with my tang but it re-occured. only with massive ick growth should a FW dip be done, if its little it will go away on its own

a FW dip does very little to affect marine whitespot. Only hyposalinity and copper are the only proven way to rid a fish of whitespot .........
