I saw this 10"+ guy available on Craigslist for $10:

The person selling it doesn't appear to know what species it is, but I think it's really quite beautiful. I can't place it, though... Any ideas out there?

The pattern on the bottom half of this fish almost makes it look like a common pleco. I am referring to the pic in the below link

Yep, that's certainly the closest thing I've seen. Maybe just a color variation? Unless it's the quality of the photographer's picture.

Yes, that is why I always find it hard to ID fish based on some pictures

But that pic also reminds me of a common pleco I had many years ago.

I hadn't realized that Common plecos were actually so attractive. Very beautiful fish... just need the space to house them. haha Thanks Cliff, I appreciate the help. I'm not buying it, but it just gives me more ideas for future stocking.

Without the dorsal up it's difficult to be 100% sure but judging from the pattern and the nose I'd say it's Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps and that has a common name of sailfin pleco

That's a pretty good guess, too. Thanks TD

Looks almost like an L333

Not to me Sandz and because
1. Doesn't match the current length
2. L333, like any hypancistrus, has a much blunter snout
3. Hypancistrus dorsal fins start near the edge of the first pelvic fins.

definitely a common pleco. I've kept many large ones over the years.
