They are probably planaria. Planaria is a symptom of overfeeding or too few gravel vacs. Your fish will probably munch on them which is fine. In order to get rid of them, step up the water changes and deep gravel vacs and feed every other day (or cut the amount you are feeding in half). Hope this helps.

The gravel holds lots of nasties you don't want in your tank. Rotting food, fish poop and worms.........best to get on a schedule of cleaning gravel and water changes.

Yup. Fish are unforgiving when it comes to their home being neglected. Just like a dog, they need care too.

once a week gravel vac should help..i wouldn't add a plec as they will add much more waste then they get rid of, more for you to gravel vac. The planaria can only thrive if there is a food source. Weekly gravel vac and lighter feedings will definately get rid of them. Goodluck!

I absolutely agree with msjinkdz regarding the pleco producing more waste than consuming! Even though I was an avid vacum-er with the last 29gal set up I had, I had lots of problems with pleco poo!! In fact, I am now a firm believer that plecos and any inhabitants with them will be happiest in a larger tank. I would never consider a pleco again until I had at least a 55 -- but that sentiment may just be mine.....
