Is my tank very close to being cycled

Last night at 8.30pm I added Ammonia to 2ppm. Today at 3pm, I did all tests and got

Ammonia 1ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
Nitrate 40ppm
Ph is showing between 6.0 and 6.4.

Am I getting very close to a cycled tank. Could Ammonia drop to 0 in about 5 hours? I will test again at 8.30pm

Started 8 weeks ago. Already had nitrite spike and go down

have you had any nitrites starting to show yet at all? because you will go through that part of the cycle before it is said and done if you haven't already. And those took the longest to drop for me

Yes. Nitrites spiked to 5ppm and dropped to 0 now. That's where I get the nitrates from I think. I started this cycle nearly 8 weeks ago. Newbie so made a few mistakes along the way.

If the ammonia drops to 0ppm within 24 hours of dosing your tank is cycled. However, I suggest you dose with ammonia a couple more times (each time after it drops to 0) just to be sure.
