that actually alright - I don't have room for a triple 10 stack. I have been using my old guinea pig enclosure stand for the tank. Under it we keep our dogs kennel and other supplies. Which we really have no other spot for it. Now if the kids were old enough to have a tank in their room I could give them the 37 and I could get me something between a 40B and 75 gallon

The obvious choice would be a 75... let's get serious here. ;P

even then that is a couple years down the road. The tank is really for my youngest who turned 5 when we bought it. Even though I am the only one allowed to touch the tank so to speak. Unless of course I am out of town then I tell the wife precisely how much of what to give anything. And no one else is allowed to change the water. Although I have given the wife a lesson on how to do it with the gravity siphon and how much dechlor to use, etc just in case.

I don't trust tank maintenance in the hands of a 5 yr old. He did try to climb a chair and dump food in it one morning when his cousins were over. Spent several minutes netting out all the food.

Id be interested in some RCS however I dont need 30 with only a 4G evolve...would you be willing to sell a smaller quantity?

Also any photos of the Chili Endlers...may be interested in those as well.

Here are a few pictures. Talked to john, if you get more than just shrimp we can do a small quantity. He just doesn't like shipping a box with 5 shrimp because by the time he bags them and takes them to the post office it really isn't worth it lol (we had someone ask for 5 before...)

I will get a few pictures of the endlers tonight

I would be interested in about 15 RCS and a few of the chili endlers....possibly some other items depending on what else you add. Any chance of any nerite snails or trumpet snails?

Triton

Trumpet snails yes. I'm assuming you dont need assassins then ;)

Kev, don't worry, i am actively trying to breed those guys. Very excited about them. How is everything you got from us last year doing?

KevinVA
01-31-2014, 10:19 PM
Let's say I wouldn't want anything else from you if they were doing horribly. lol

My BN plecos and Sterbai are doing awesome, and if not for my Angels new feeding frenzy, my RCS would still be doing awesome (though, I do see that they hideout in the driftwood I have. I'm hoping the crypts all grow in somewhat quickly, so they have more cover. I also have them in two other tanks where they're doing quite well.

All in all, I can vouch that Chris's stock is hardy stock (no pun intended) and would recommend purchasing what you need from him. =]

Got our auction coming up 2/16. I'm excited to stock up on plants. I usually buy the big lots, so whatever i don't have room for I'll be putting on here.

John has 5 tanks ready for fish from the auction. We will be QT'ing everything before we sell anything.

I just picked up a tank deal that came with a bunch of stuff I don't need. Mostly trying to sell locally but open to shipping if its something another member is interested in

The "list"
Eheim Classic 150 (same as the 2211) - designed for 40g, but if you only want to use this I'd say a 20g then. Comes with all media etc, box, instructions etc. - I may keep this one though ;)
25' Python Water Changer
Marina Plant trimming tool (like 2' long, but folds)

My RCS and MTS arrived today...folks I must attest to the quality of the livestock it is awesome. Even after a 3 day transit and sitting on my porch for a few hours in 45*F weather the livestock is happily zooming around the tank as if they had always been there.

What sort of new livestock are you guys bringing in?

Triton
02-06-2014, 12:19 AM
Only time will tell. Glad to hear everything made it happy and healthy. When it comes to the auction it will all depend on what is there. Will probably a few tanks worth.

I decided to order 5 more assassins from Chris and John, even though I already have 4 from LionelC, my pond snail situation is getting way too out of control...I ordered them Friday, they arrived today, in great shape and with 2 bonus snails!

I am a very satisfied customer, and will order from these guys again in the future...I'll be needing some more RCS when we upgrade the 10 gallon to a 20 long, and this is where I'll be shopping!

Thanks again, Triton!...I highly recommend buying from these guys! thumbs2:

I am hoping to have my assassins within the week as well from the LFS - we are finally set to have temps in the 10's+ above zero for over 24 straight hours, so now those and my pearls can come in hopefully. He hasn't had stock come in for nearly 2 months and his tanks are getting depleted besides what locals bring in to sell. He is going to probably have some serious mini cycles go on due to all the fish that haven't been present for so long.

Maybe when it gets warmer I can get some other specimens from you guys

Triton
02-10-2014, 09:46 PM
The extreme cold isn't too much of an issue. We had extremely low temps Friday / Saturday. If you insulate the box and use a heat pack your fine. In the medium boxes we use 2+ heat packs depending on how much is being shipped

Gah, I need more tanks

Triton
02-26-2014, 04:50 PM

FrozenTundra
02-26-2014, 05:20 PM
so what you are saying is you need a dual stand for 40B's one over the other. Then you could have more tanks without more space being taken up...

Triton
02-26-2014, 05:21 PM
Hey, I just bought one of those stands for $25 :)

Slaphppy7
02-26-2014, 05:53 PM

KevinVA
02-26-2014, 06:01 PM
I had 3 of them (now 2). They're good for saving space, but working in them is a pain in the butt... unless you have one that raises the bottom shelf to a reasonable level. They're not aesthetically pleasing in the living room, either. I like enjoying all of my tanks at eye level.

Triton
02-26-2014, 08:21 PM

How are your Crypts doing? Any of them bloom yet?

Triton
05-20-2014, 05:20 PM
The ones in the emersed set up are in transition stage still, pretty much they slowly have the submerged leaves die off while they are replaced with hardier leaves

The ones in my 75 are doing VERY well and I actually have a few new ones popping up in unexpected areas lol

Compass
05-21-2014, 12:31 PM
Sweet. I like how crypts send out runners. Since you do a dirt tank you might have stumbled upon Dustin's Fish Tanks on youtube. I like his idea of adding lumps of clay in random areas to promote root growth and spreading for crypts and other root heavy plants. He had one video where he showed the bottom of his tank and you can see that it works. Small balls of red clay and all the roots converge on them.

On an unrelated note, concerning the Buce. How big would you say it is? I'm thinking I'll add a bunch of anubais and accent with your buce. I just want to get my ratios right so things look good. Do you think it would look good with Anubais nana or do you think a bigger Anubais would look better?

Triton
05-21-2014, 12:38 PM
depends on the look you are going for.

Most of the buce I have, and the ones I can get are about the size of a silver dollar (inch to inch and half (ish)) in size, I think the anubias and buce compliment each other well, tie them both to lava rock and do a pile of plants

A mix of anubias would be nice, have some that go vertical while you have a bunch of the petite. Personally in my show tanks I haven't had the greatest luck with anything but petite due to algae issues, but I know in a lower light setting they do great

Here's a shot of my "show" buce tank - waiting for the buce to get bigger :)

34072

Compass
05-21-2014, 12:56 PM
Ok, cool. Does it have to be lava rock? This will be for my river set up so I'll have a lot of river stones. I don't think my hillstream loaches will take too kindly to lava rocks. I'm not worried about algae cause of the loaches, they'll take care of that. lol

Triton
05-21-2014, 01:13 PM
you could use pieces of driftwood too, just needs tied off to do well (IMO)

Compass
05-21-2014, 01:30 PM
Oh yeah, I'll tie it off I just wanted to make sure it'll do ok on stuff besides lava rock.

Triton
05-22-2014, 01:14 PM
so compass, what size tank you working on?

Compass

40 gallon breeder. River manifold system. I was originally going to do it with just rocks and one crypt balansae as an accent piece. That (like so many other things) has evolved into something else. I'm going to add quite a bit more. One piece of driftwood I've had for a while and then slowly cover the back of the tank with Anubais and accent with the Buce. Just get a few plants at a time, spread out the cost. I'm still working on the stand, hopefully finish it today.

Yes, I'm gonna need you in a few months for a 20L build, no need to look anywhere else for plants.

On a different note Chris, how's your endler stock? Are chili endlers the only ones you stock? What is their scientific name? Can you get me some pictures of them?

Thanks sir, I want males only, NO breeding in my future...please...LOL

I can try to track some down, I have 5-6 unsexed juvi from the species #2 left

OK..."unsexed" means we don't know what they are, male or female, right?...or does that mean they're virgins? :hmm3grin2orange:

They DO breed like crazy, correct?

Species #2....hmmmm....have no idea what that means...I need to do some research

But I may be wanting to buy some pretty quickly here, Lauren's birthday is the 14th

Triton

Very interesting...this is my daughter's well established 10 gallon, that once was a platy/snail factory

Current stocking is 2 platy, 2 male guppy, one betta, RCS and snails...ph is 7.0-7.2, 78 degrees

Since donation 15 platys today, the tank looks very empty...her b-day is this Saturday...I am just mulling possibilities, she'll be out of town Thurs-Sat, and I thought it would be cool to surprise her with more fish

KevinVA
06-10-2014, 07:44 PM
I could actually grow the baby tears in my 20gals, but the one I'm thinking about is kind of shaded due to the floating plants/driftwood branch. Might not do well in there.

Triton
06-10-2014, 07:44 PM

KevinVA

It is a long, but still shaded by a big branchy piece of manzanita and floating plants. ;P

Chris, I'm going to post a pic of my 75gal tonight. I'm not happy with the left/center front of the tank. The tiger lotus looks out of place, the little brown plants have sucked in here (not sure what they're called) and the sagitaria isn't doing well. Not sure if I have to reposition one of my LED lights or what (they're either getting too much light or not enough), but they're not growing very fast and are covered in red (I think) algae.

Anyway, I'd like some help to finally make my 75gal look very nice. So, I'll be utilizing you and your plants, should you not mind. ;P

Ok, thanks Chris. I'll post a pic when I get home. Hopefully you can help me out. I swear, I've taken this tank apart so many times and I haven't reached a point where I'm happy with the look.

Even the Rotala indica placement might need to be adjusted. Not sure I want to keep it right next to the ludwigia, since the colors are similar. You'll see!

Triton

Triton
06-12-2014, 10:21 AM
So you are looking front left?

I think either a few lutea or wendtii red would look good there

I think you need some height on the right, unless that's temple hygro in which case just needs a little time. I can get crypt spiralis and also apopgenton longilopulmous (horrible spelling but it's early) - I'd have to check stock and pricing on this one

At this rate you're going to be making some serious cash! Cause you know, this hobby is just full of opportunities to make lots of money. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHA

I'm not sure how I should take your maniacal laughing. lol

Compass
06-23-2014, 07:30 PM
It was more or less meant as sarcastic laughter cause let's face it. There isn't a whole lot of money to be made in this hobby other than just enough to support this hobby. If there was, every one of us would be running our own LFS by now. lol

Compass
06-23-2014, 07:33 PM
though I will say that isn't meant to discourage you Triton! It was more meant as tongue in cheek.

KevinVA

You'd actually be surprised. The hobby is growing in popularity and because of people like Tom Barr and Takashi Amano, planted aquaria is more popular than its ever been.

Ok so here is my unboxing of Triton's plants!

They came in a nice box wrapped in newspaper.
34741

The bag was inflated to aid in keeping the plants safe!
34742

And here they are! From left to right we have Cryptocoryne lutea, C. parva, and C. wendtii green/red. Not sure at this point which is which. lol
34743

The plants look awesome! Great roots and you really get a lot for your money. Each one of those is 6 to 8 dollars at an LFS! I also like that they are wrapped in newspaper and not rockwool. You pretty much have to destroy the roots to get that stuff off! lol

Triton

Yea I just started using newspaper, I think it does well and breaks down easy so it comes off neat, I believe the furthest to the right is the red wendtii

Planted everything, Chris. Btw, I appreciate the newspaper. ;] Can't stand rock wool, either. That stuff is a pain in the butt.

Plants all arrived in healthy order and so far, so good! Thanks again, buddy, now I need to figure out what to do with all the replacement stuff. ;/ Feel bad just tossing it.
