I bought this fancy guppie a couple weeks ago and soon after realized that he has a serious problem; tail rot. It began slow but has recently been spreading quickly, his tail is now completely split down the middle. I have been treating him with some melafix for about 4 days. today his symptoms were much worse (split tail). I removed him from my community tank and put him in his own small tank, then switched medications to anti-fungus, which contains malachite green. i know MG may not be healthy for him, but he's in such horrible shape that i decided it was time to try something a little stronger. am i doing the right thing? is there any chance that he will make it if i keep him isolated and fed, or is he a gonner for sure?

Here is a picture of his current condition.

He won't make it. The fin rot has advance beyond his tail into the flesh. He's too far gone. Sorry

Now that I am reading you have barbs in your tank, that gives another explanation. Barbs are notorious fin nippers and it could well be this is not tail rot at all but he is being attacked.
