I have a 30 gallon hex tank. I have 1 corey, 1 neon tetra, 2 gold barbs, 3 (they were called mickey fish, have a black mickey mouse spot on there tails). Now I've been reading post of people having 6 coreys in a 20 gallon tank. Do I need to add more? I also read you should keep tetras and barbs in schools of 5 or more. Someone please tell me what I need to do. Thanks

your fish would do better in a school. In a 30 gallon more cories and tetras would be fine, since the cories stay at the bottom and tetras in the middle

the mickey mouse fish is called mickey mouse platy

The barbs i only have 2 and they're doing great! so its upto you on that one

Cories do best in groups of five or more and preferably of the same variety. Tetras do best in large groups, you have plenty of room in that tank for a nice school, I have a 28g with 6 corys and 12 tetras. As for the barbs, I am not very familiar with them but I think that they are typically kept together as well but depending on the flavor of barb may become agressive towards the tetras.

Neon tetras behave better in groups. You have enough room to make a nice school of around 10 tetras. They look really nice together.

Thanks for the help. I added 2 neon tetras and 2 cories. I also put in some 4 inch umbrella plants. I hope they are ok. All the fish seem to have a better attitude. Cories are hard at work cleaning the bottom. My poor neon tetra now has 2 friends. And all of them are swimming happily. I do plan to add more plants. But when and how many? Or what type. I was going to try to research some but there is alot and I don't know where to start. Thanks again.

I have 11 asstd cories in my 58gal.They are a riot! Its hard to have too many cories.Try some dwarf cories they only get 3/4" and they are very active. Also for plants I assume you have normal 1 bulb lighting.Try sword plants they are the first plants I tried mine are 3 years old and have been throught the ringer and currently look great.Anubias and java ferns are also a good low cost option.Have fun.

I have 3 dwarf pepper cories. I think I will try some sword plants. I know this sounds stupid but I never even thought of putting plants in my tank before. Thanks for the help.
