View Full Version : Help-Angelfish condition-can't find info anywhere

I have been searching for help with my angelfish and can't find anything on the internet. Now I've found this forum :19:
I have been experimenting with treatments. I've tried parasite treatments and currently he is in a hospital tank being treated with nitrofurazone.
So far I haven't seen any improvement. His mouth is distended and his vent looks like he has parasites or something. He eats well and shows no signs of discomfort.
Can anyone tell me what might be going on and what I can do to treat him? I have another angel that is fine, so at least I don't think it's contagious.
I appreciate any advice!

Looks lie nematode worms to me.

Strange looking mouth, huh?

Thanks for the reply! I really appreciate any help I can get :)
I went through 3 rounds of treatments for parasites and nothing changed :(
I'll look into the nematode treatment further. He doesn't have any of the symptoms listed on the link you attached though and this has been going on for a few months.
I did find one post somewhere that said that the mouth issue could be a bacterial infection which is why i tried the nitrofurazone.
I'll keep trying!

Nematode's will not be killed by conventional worm medication. They are pretty tough to get rid of but the medication in that article is what most have to use. Levimasole is actually in pig wormer medication. Good luck.

I'll give it a try.

What tank size is the fish in, and what are your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels? It seems to me there could be other issues, possibly water quality related besides worms.

It is a 46 gallon planted tank with 2 clown loaches, a small pleco, a synodontis and one more angel. I keep the water really clean. I don't have test supplies at the moment so I don't know what the levels are. This has been going on for several months with this one fish and none of the others have any issues. The fish is eating as always and is not getting skinny. He has the same energy level as he always has.
