How many female bettas could I manage to fit in my 10 gallon tank. I have never had a female betta and I've seen the horrible conditions they've are being kept in. I want to try to save a couple of them. I do have experience with bettas. I have a male betta who's been with me since March of 2007.

If you have it planted, so there are distinct territories for them to go to if they want to...I'd say you could have 3...

The aquarium isn't planted. It does have fake plants.

Plastic plants are fine...but real plants are much nicer! You can get easy-to-grow plants without high light demands...or substrate...mine are all planted in pots...

If they are going to be the only fish in there I would say go with 4. Make sure it is heavily planted(live or fake)with lots of hiding places to break up the sight lines...you should be able to look from the side and not be able to see everything on the opposite side.Just as you should be able to look through the front and not be able to clearly see the back. When adding them make sure you add them all at once that way no one has a claim on anything. They will chase eachother and nip at fins but as long as there is no serious damage leave them..it will take about a week for them to work out their hierarchy.
