Hey, my LFS has a 29g tank with filter light and lid for 50$ that I really want. Whats some good reasons to get it? My mom won't let me get it and I am thinking about getting rid of the 2 10g in my room and putting it in there, after all, one is a feeder fish tank that all the feeders can go into my big tank except for the shrimp and they will go in my 5g and my other holds one lone newt that I can take back to the LFS. Whats some good suggestions on reasons to get it? I was thinking of keeping firemouths in there only.

Firemouths will get too big for a 29g.

A pair? were you getting this from? They don't get no bigger than a convict and they are fine in a 29g.

so you want to get rid of some of the fish you have now cause your bored with them??? too bad a lot of people do that, they get bored with their pet so they just get rid of it and get something new. which i totally don't agree with. i guess a pair of firemouths would do ok in a 29g. but since they are a bigger fish they really should have more room.

Who said i'm getting rid of fish? No a newt is an amphibian and I have one and you know he is very bored in there, I am not joking when I say my LFS has an excellent set-up for them. Read it again, I am getting rid of TANKS not FISH.

Whoa. Where was my head. I could have SWORN you said Oscars.....No more drugs for me.
The firmouths should do ok. Make sure you provide lots of hiding spots for them, and heavy plant cover to break up their line of site.
What would the filtration be?

My filtration will be a whisper 60 and 30 so 45g worth of filtration. I will put a penguin 350 on there as soon as I get my Rena XP4 though.

Lol, didn't work so I turned my newt tank into a planted hatchet tank. Looks pretty cool, got a big cool piece of that sinking driftwood stuff and it looks great!!

You said you are getting rid of tanks? Why would your mom have a problem with substituting one tank for a few? It would save on energy, space, and you would be happier.

Yea my mom is weird.

Well, you have to dig into the root of the problem. Why does she not want you to have another tank? I say ask her and go from there. Do you have the money or does she have to give it to you?

I pay for it and she sees me as wasting it and "we don't need any more tanks" Really gets on my nerves.

I just looked at your signature. How many of these tanks are in your room? Are any family tanks or are they just yours? How many are your full responsibility?

I have 4 in my room, my mom has one in her room and we have one in the living room. I am responsible for all of them sadly but only the ones in my room are actually mine even though I am the one who does the work for the two reef tanks.

Well, if the money is yours and you take care of all the tanks I don't know what to tell you. It is a lot of tanks... just keep trying!

Lol but over all I am getting rid of one by buying one.

Kuli, think of some obsession your mom has, then ask her what's the difference between yours and mine. My mom collects all these house decorations, and whenever she gets on my case about my fish, I just say, "how is that different from all these decorations????"
Worked for me.

Lol, might try that some time.

My mom told me "NOTHING bigger than a 10g" the first time I got a tank. She liked it. Then I got a 29 and she said "NOTHING bigger than this 29, no exceptions".....Then I found my 55 on craigslist, and she said "NOTHING bigger than the 55, im not kidding"....Now I've got her thinking about letting me get a 125g.
Its because she likes the tanks, and I let her have one:thumbs2:

My mom asked hwat i wanted for christmas and i said a 55g tank
she said dont get your hopes up because your not getting that...thanks mom lol.
she likes to rave about my 29g to guests, but doesn't see why the fish tank needs to be cleaned once a week b/c they're some water on the floor, or if ones sick why not stick it in a bowl. Well, i have a couple years to change her mind before i got to college haha.
Well, as much as I hate to be a hard-nose...unless YOU'RE paying the mortgage, taxes and insurance...
...it's NOT your house...and what your parents' hobbies are do not reflect on what hobbies you are permitted to have...a household is NOT a democracy either...it should be a benign dictatorship...
If Mom/Dad ultimately say 'no'...then it's no!

I agree to a point Rue. My parents never go to my room, only me so why is is there business that it has more fishtanks than clothes in it?

Also Rue, if it's a no then yeah that's okay, but it's always nice to know why!
Have you asked her why Loach? Do you always get the same "you've got plenty of tanks" response or are there a few reasons?

It's always one of to things, you either have enough tanks or something about the water bill.
Offer some money for the water bill if that's an issue.
