HOLY CRAP!!!! So this 29 gallon I supposedly have! My dad either got scammed when he bought that tank or its just so old he didn't remember.....but it is soooooo not even a 29 gallon. I knew when I filled it up that it didn't seem like a 29 gallon (I didnt count the buckets but it seemed short).........but I didn't know it was going to be that far from a 29. According to my measurements its a 20 gallon high.....(24"x12"x16). Daaaaaannnnnng......thats 9 gallons difference. Am I going to be able to keep my stock that I was planning?

2 Dwarf Gouramis
6 Neon Tetra's
3--Oto's
3--Cory Cats

Ugh...i'm like seriously so disappointed right now........and I guarantee my dads gonna be shocked. I just feel like an idiot b/c this is the first "larger" tank i've had since i've only been keeping 2.5 & 5 gallon's. So I didn't realize it was that much off, until I just measured it. Oh man.........:smad:

Ya that sounds about right. The stocking list should be fine.
Just with the gouramis, make sure one is a female and one is a male, even then you may have problems.

Thats what I was planning, I heard if you keep two, keep one of each sex. If you keep more than 2, keep one male and multiple females.

Whatever it is....I just know my 2 males almost killed one another and I finally got rid of the bully. My other ones tail is pretty much back in tact.

Yuck....that doesn't sound like much fun.

WooT ! I checked my sizes of my tank with the link and I'm also surprised as you Meg... It was marked as a 50Gal and now, after checking with sizing... it's considered as a 40gallon Breeder.... WTF is a Breeder tank ? ... I'm super angry now... :scry: but on the good side of that... my filter is now perfect... lol... It's supposed to be for tanks up to 96Gal... if I have a 50, would be border line... but with a 40gal... It's enough :D... anyways... Next tank I'll get, I'll be sure to check out theses dimensions...

A 40 gal breeder is really wide, I love them. They have a big footprint.
It's more of a nice square then a rectangle.

I didn't even think about filtration, I still have a good size though. I have a penguin 200, which is rated for a 50 gallon....which with a 29 gallon it would be borderline like yours, but 20 gallon, perfect.

Lol Yeah, I'm really glad I checked it. I should've done it when I had suspected though.

I'd say the good thing is you didn't have that big of stocking list and now you don't have to drop fish off of it.

Yeah, must've been a reason why I didn't know what else I wanted. lol

You have a very pretty tank Megan. Size is good to know but every tank has the ability for us to make it what we want it to be. It is obvious you have the talent to make that tank work for you.

Maybe I should go check my tank. Im going to get the measurements of my tank I just bought today. It's 48'' 21'' 12 7/8'' or so. Please tell me that its 54 gallons. If it's less I'm going to be mad.

Hmmm...I dunno Meg, I reckon you may have a couple too many fish in there...can you lose a couple of the Otos?
Or get rid of all three and get a bristlenose whom will stay small (can't remember which species)?

Maybe i'll just skip the cories. Cause I have an oto already who lost his mate, but I would like to give him a family.

Good thing you read that chart or you could have gone thru your entire life having the size wrong. LOL

Stock is OK but you might want to get more neons and no gourami's.

Lol your funny! that would be a shock... I have to admit though when i first started out on this forum here all id heard about measuring tanks on was litres. so when i saw posts with how many fish people were putting in 55gals i was like WTF! where are the fish swimming!!!!!!! but no. a gallon is much much larger than a liter hahaha...

The tank I have I bought used and was told that it was a 35g, when I got around to setting it up, I discovered that it was around a 25g and narrowed it down to a 28g. The funny thing is that when you go into a shop to look its now unusual to have to ask an employee what the capacity is. That just seems like the kind of thing that would naturally be included on the tank's ads on the front.

The liter thing........I have a conversation chart on my desktop and am constanting having to do the conversation to US gallon or I have no idea of what they are talking about. I also have a centimeter chart on my wall so when they speak of fish sizes, I can figure that one out too.

lol, its pathetic, but i can tell you the standard measurements of a tank size from 1g-150g, and any celcius-Fahrenheit conversion

MeganL3985
11-02-2007, 03:21 PM
I'm getting good at celcius-Fahrenheit conversion too cocoa. lol I have a few girls that I talk to on another site and they're from canada. They'd say something like "Its 20 degree's today"....and i'm like "WHAT?!" lol

Hey meg... I would NOT keep a male and a female gourami... I did that and the male beat the crap out of her, eventually biting out her eye *this happend while i was watching the tank* she died, but it was horrible watching... I did move her to the hospice tank for a while, but she just didnt make it....
