Okay, So I know Betta is really pronounced BET-AH, not BAY-TA.....but I can't shake the pronounciation Bay-ta.....cause thats how I heard it all my life. I honestly have never even heard anyone say it the right way. lol So how do you say it? :hmm3grin2orange:

Bay-tah is beta...which is the greek alphabet...you know:

alpha, beta, gamma...

I'd venture to guess it is mostly a regional thing. ( I always known it as a bet-ah)

Dude, I can't believe everybody doesn't pronounce it as BAY-TA...

I've never even heard it pronounced the other way. I'm a dork! :hmm3grin2orange:

i say bet-ah too.
but most pet shops here have them labelled as siamese fighting fish so if im buying one there i just call them that. :ezpi_wink1:

ive always known it a bay-tah. i feel so weird sometimes talking to fish store people. i also have been calling plecos play-ko, when i think its actually ple-ko. maybe its like an accent. im from connecticut. maybe its differant in boston or brooklyn too.

In french, It sound way more like Bay-ta... tho I know the official way to say it is Bet-ah... but can't do anything... everything I say it, it sound like Bay-ta... I'm speaking french all the time anyways so... might be cauz of that...

*Still... can't figure out how to "say" it the right way... sound just funny in my mouth ! lol*

I say bet-ta. Guy at the fish store says bay-ta.
