That cat is to big for that tank bud, do you have a larger tank?

They aren't true aquatic plants (lfar left, middle and far right) and will die within a few months - you are better taking them out and planting them in a pot of earth on your windowsill that way you will have the plants for a lot lot longer ;)

This is the fault of the aqua store and many many of them do it... there seem to be more and more 'house plants' offered as aqua plants which is a real shame...

Is that an Arius Seemani? Firstly a brackish fish, secondly waaaaaaaaaay to big for your tank and thirdly darkly coloured so the big guy is pretty stressed.

Other than that I think it is quite a nice tank....

Who all lives in it?

I agree on the plants, I would order plants online if you want aquatic plants.

I have been trying to get a larger tank for the Silver Shark Catfish (or so I was told 5 years ago when he was just a baby) which looks exactly like the Jordan Catfish "Arius Seemani" and the Common Pleco that live in our tank, when we finally move (been putting it off for a couple of years due to poor housing market) they will get a nice multi hundred gallon tank, until then they are pretty cramped. The plants were purchased to support the fish through the Cycling stage becasue we didn't keep more than 10 gallons of the water and no filter media.

The cat is really stressed becasue of all the activity and the high nitrates. The pleco is as large as the cat. I know the tank is way too small for these guys, I have a fluval 303 and an ancient side hanging filter. Fighting high nitrates, thanks for the info on rea ly aqua plants I'll look into it, we don't have any good fish stores around here anymore.

If you manage to find plants stock up on fast growers like Elodea Densa , Cabomba, Hornwort etc. as these also take down the levels of nitrate... a lot of floating plants also do this as they feed from their roots and eat up a lot of nitrate...

Good Luck xxx Hope the guys can be rehoused soon :thumb:

dude, I know what you mean. We bought this house about ten years ago for about 400,000, and now it's worth well over a million. Crazy, isn't it????

Glad you are going to move the cat into a very large tank! MAny people buy those catfish and have no clue how to care for them.

He's been a happy fish for years we got him after we had the first ever bacteria plume in our tank (lost a lot there, was the first time setting up a warm water tank) but he has hung in and grew, been plannin gon getting a large 100+ gallon tank almost as long as we have had him, planned on moving when he was still small enough for the tank but it just never happened.

Here's a pic of the cat you can also see our pleco hiding in the little cove he is upside down I think he fits better that way. The cat shows a lot of stress wear on his tail and he doesn't have his seen but it does fade with age and he isn't young.

Bump, nitrates are down to 10 ppm over night the air seems to really boost the nitrates.

Hmm, I would do a 10% water change.

Very sad to see such beautiful fish in far too small of a tank, but good to hear you are considering a tank upgrade. The upgrade needs to happen like yesterday though.
