Well i got some of this cycling stuff (not "cycle") put out by Hagen. Waited awhile then i put the danios and oscar in. Now, when he went in he went into one corner but soon after (like 3 mins) he was exploring the tank, going out in front of the tank looking at me not scared when i went close. I even fed him some food, he took 2 pellets. But right now he's a little lighter which i know they can change colors depending on mood and hes sitting in the corner. Is he ok?

hey congrats! finally you got it.
sulking is not unusual in first days because its arrived to a new environment.
IMO adding one teaspoon of salt per 10g is useful for your new tank.
and don't forget that we want the picccc!

Ill try, hes swimming around now.. Is it normal for an oscar to sometimes swim kinda tilted? He looks like a healthy fish, his fins arent clamped together. He keeps going up and down verticaly in the tank. He has eaten already which ive heard most oscars wont eat for a few days.

better wait a few days. nothing can be said for sure now.

That's most likely him going through the tank and exploring everything. Alot of fish go up and down the glass the first couple days, becuase thye are figuring out their territories and such.

ok, but he sometimes tilts a little, is he ok? none of his fins are clamped, his eyes look clear and hes swimming around. Just sometimes he tilts but gets right back when he swims normally. I think hes fine, he hasnt ran off scared when i go up to the glass, he just swims, stares at me swims more.

yeah it could just be because he is in the new environment and not used to it yet. So just be patient...he should be going fine in a couple of days.

Yeah i mean its not like hes doing it all the time, i think it could be a little too much current, but he can go to the front or the flowerpots. Let me get a picture of him.

ok....ool...yeah if he is little and you have alot of current that might be doing it to him.....so iw ouldn't be too worried about it.

i hate the big eyes of oscars when they are baby haha :)
thats a realy nice one. my beautiful yellow oscar was much worse than yours when she was baby! she was totally black.

Yeah im really happy with him. He's cool, he only "sulked" i think for 10 minutes then started to swim and explore the entire tank. and he ate a few pellets. I guess thats a sign of a healthy oscar?

Ocellatus

actually its not! i've heard some oscars ate in first day and died in second :D
but don't worry, just wait a few days.

its cool man i was kiddin too. All he is doing now is swimming like CRAZY, up and down, down one end to another end of the tank. He loves the bubble bar i put in, when the bubbles go up he goes up then dives down, then up then down lol. Hes really active.

Basically, hes about as active as my giant danios lol, swimming wise.

Ocellatus
10-27-2007, 09:07 PM
yeah thats because of some parasites in your non-cycled tank are chasing him :))
hey man i'm kidding :D

congrats on the oscar and don't worry too much about the tilted swimming mine did that for a while and will still do it sometimes when he's checking things out. i've even talked to people who had oscars that would lay on their side on the bottom at night sometimes until something interested them and they'd start swimming around. read somewhere that it could even be a hunting technique to trick the little fish

Nick89

LOL, i put some stuff in my tank before putting the fish in. I just gave him another pellet and he took it. So hes eating well i suppose, and swimming. All that matters. Hows your oscars doing blu-ray?

Oh cool, yeah he does it for like a second and hes not completely on his side, just tilted a little lol. Hes a cool fish.

mine did the same tilt thing when i started hand feeding him too. he'd tilt to look at it before deciding if he wanted it. now he just jumps up and bites my fingers and likes to be hand fed more than just having the chow dropped in!

i think they are sad! i separated thier babies from them in worst possible manner! its midnight here and they have nightmare about a power head come through the roof and steal their babies!!
i hope they forget it soon and become ready for next spawn. i won't torture them next time!
and i hope these few fries stay with me.

Nick89

hope everything is ok blu-ray. And piscaholic, you know what i mean about the tilt. Not like all the way on their side but tilted a little bit. Everytime he goes towards the danios the danios go nuts and swim away lol.

10-27-2007, 09:35 PM
yup. i think it's like a "what are you up to" sideways glance or the type of look you give your buddy when he says something stupid. my fish gives me that look all the time!

Nick89

Ha, good way to put it. I wanted to see him go in the flowerpot cave i got him but hes too busy swimming lol.

Thats a good sign. Keep up with water changes since the tank isn't cycled.

Nick89
10-28-2007, 12:05 AM
i got some stuff that cycles the tank. i got to add some more in 7 days. But yeah hes eating, swimming and he doesnt hide when hes out in front of the glass and when you go up to the glass. he stays follows your finger a little bit. hes the coolest fish ever.

TowBoater
10-28-2007, 12:07 AM
Is it cycle or stress zyme? That stuff doesn't work well, biospira works.

Nick89
10-28-2007, 12:12 AM
its called TLC for fresh water aquariums. I thought it was put out by Hagen but i was wrong, i was reading something else.

TowBoater
10-28-2007, 12:13 AM
Was it refrigerated? If not then it probably won't help much at all.

Nick89
10-28-2007, 12:14 AM
Well the guy seem to know what he was talking about.. and it wasnt refridgerated, im fairly sure things will be ok.
